elf 100pc marble eyeshadow palette

I finally got around to do a proper swatch of all the colours of this palette. I also have the other one, just called 100pc eyeshadow palette. I bought them on sale quite a long time  ago, so these were like I think 10£ for 100 eyeshadows – which was waste of my 20£(for two palettes)!

See the palette on the official site here.

I would say that elf is a hit or miss-brand. And this is definitely a miss! To make it short – I don’t like the palette: if you look at the it, he colours look great, but once you get to use them, they are just useless. The matte shades are chalky, clumpy, and are not pigmented at all. Some of those with satin finish are okay once you rub your finger very hard on the shadow, but as I usually use a brush to apply powder shadows, these just don’t really work.

So I started to swatch them all, and looked for those which are acceptable, and which to just throw out. I’m thinking of buying a Z-palette, and then depot those I could use. I ended up with 26 shadows that are acceptable. I still have to go through the other palette. It did take me some time, and I made a real mess haha.

Since I bought the palettes, I have been feeling guilty of buying new eyeshadow palettes because I’ve got all the colours, right? I just realised that I’ve never used them after a few attempts of applying with the palettes.

Can you recommend a big  and comparatively cheap eyeshadow palettes? Maybe I should try out the Coastal Scents/BH cosmetics? Which would lead me back to the other dilemma… pheww… it’s not easy is it 😉

Have an awesome weekend!

My new mirror!!!

I am so happy for the new mirror I picked up yesterday. I bought this on Groupon a while ago, and went to the Groupon store to get it. I have been annoyed by my really bad lighting: I don’t even have a table lamp. So with this thing, I can finally put on makeup whenever and see my face properly haha. I might use this for taking pictures too as it is possible to adjust the light from dim to a very strong light.

MUFE Mat velvet+ review

On with my foundation project. Today is Makeup Forever’s Mat Velvet+.

???????????????????????????????   ???????????????????????????????

I have had this foundation for a while now. I use it whenever I have a night out or need some little extra coverage. As the name indicates, it’s oil-free, and it’s also water-resistant.

I have mine in #45 (I’m NC42/43) which I think is an ok match once it oxidises.  The undertone of the range seems quite suitable for neutral undertones – which means it doesn’t suit me quite well on my very yellow undertone. It’s very close, but not quite enough for me to repurchase. The high price is actually acceptable because of the good coverage, so I don’t use it every day.

Overall, I really like it. The pros:

– Good coverage – won’t say it’s full-coverage though.

– Nice texture – not too thick despite of the good coverage.

– The packaging: it’s so sleek and compact and light. The bottle looks really small, but it still contains 30ml.

– Easy to get out of the bottle: it’s not a pump – you just squeeze the right amount out:

???????????????????????????????

– Matte finish – which is good for a night out.

– Scent free.

I don’t really have any cons for this. I just would not repurchase because the undertone is not yellow enough – and combined with the high price, it’s just not right for me. But I would definitely recommend it for everyone else 😉

I’m wearing the foundation on the right side of my face(maybe I’ve zoomed in a little too much haha):

And then on the entire face:

???????????????????????????????

So if you compare my face with the chest, it’s actually pretty close 🙂

Have you tried the Mat Velvet+? What do you think of it?

Revlon Colorstay foundation for oily vs. dry skin

So the other day I showed you guys how the Revlon Colorstay foundation for oily/combination skin looked on me….. Well yeah… it didn’t look good.

I also have one for normal/dry skin, and thought and I would show you how that one looks on me. The shade on this one is different – it’s in 320 True Beige which is lighter than the one I have for oily/combination skin(330 Natural Tan).

This one actually suits me better. The formula is lighter, which I of course prefer in this humid weather. As my skin is “normal”, this suits me quite well. The reason I have been wearing the oily/combination one is because any skin will become oily in this humid weather.. For further general pros and con of Revlon Colorstay foundation, click here.

Wearing the foundation on the right side of my face

Wearing the foundation on the whole face, and the brows done 😉

As you can see, this one is much better. It’s a little hard to catch on camera, but I still don’t think that it’s a perfect match. I’m actually thinking of going a shade lighter – whenever I can get hold of it of course.
